PRIM&R is pleased to introduce the members of the Blog Squad for our 2021 Social, Behavioral, and Educational Research and Advancing Ethical Research Conferences (SBER21 and AER21). The Blog Squad is made up of PRIM&R members who will share their insights before, during, and after the conference. Stay tuned as they share their conference insights on Ampersand.

Tamiko T. Eto, MS, CIP, is the Division of Research Manager for Compliance, Privacy, and IRB Support Services at the Permanente Medical Group of Kaiser Permanente, Northern California. She has over 16 years of experience in human subjects research protections. Prior to that, Tamiko served as Acting Director at Stanford Research Institute’s (SRI) Office of Research Integrity and Chair of the SRI IRB. She leverages her experience to implement regulatory policies to health care research projects that delve into AI and novel technology research.

Tamiko works closely with AI researchers and institutional/regulatory bodies in addressing ethical and regulatory challenges related to AI, and has developed tools and checklists for IRBs to use in their review of AI research. She also actively collaborates on research, in an effort to be at the forefront of developing an ethical and regulatory framework for research involving human subjects.

Tim Rubbelke, PhD, is the Senior Research Compliance Specialist in the Research Conflicts of Interest program at Washington University in St. Louis. He assists the Conflict of Interest Review Committee in the assessment and management of complex cases of financial conflicts of interest, including those related to startups commercializing university-owned IP. Tim has a PhD in Health Care Ethics from St. Louis University, focusing on both human subjects and animal research ethics.

Rebecka (Becky) Snyder is the IRB Coordinator for Ascension Healthcare in Wisconsin, one of the leading nonprofit and Catholic health systems in the United States. She has been with Ascension Wisconsin for three years, first as a Regulatory Specialist for industry-funded clinical trials and then as the IRB Coordinator for almost two years. She also served as the IACUC Coordinator at the Medical College of Wisconsin for about eight years, with a brief pause on her professional career in between to enjoy four years as a stay-at-home mom to her wonderful son.
